Project Limón, Nicaragua
Project Limon currently runs a Diabetic Program within eight of the surrounding communities. Diabetes is one disease that remains highly uncontrolled in the area due to a diet rich in carbohydrates and sugar, lack of education, and lack of availability of medications. In this program, community representatives received training on how to use glucometers to check blood sugars and are responsible for home-visits with the diabetics within their communities giving a health talk monthly and checking their blood sugars at least weekly. Based on the number of health talks given, the various representatives and their communities receive monthly supplies of medication as well as glucometer strips.
