Most households in Kodaikanal are one room, and use firewood for cooking. All the smoke from the firewood is deposited in the house and inhaled by the family, leading to respiratory complications and other health problems. FIMRC started chimney installations in four communities where we work, and has already installed more than 10 stoves. Currently, we install chimneys at the crèche children’s houses. The funds for this project will help build 25 chimneys in different communities, and we hope to eventually install stoves in all the houses in the communities that do not have a chimney.
