The municipal hospital in the municipality of Restauración is considered a third level hospital according to the health care system in the Dominican Republic, but is still in a very precarious situation where there is no cardiologist or money to have the EKG electrodes. The EKG service that is offered only works if they have the materials available and if there is electricity. The EKG lead cable and electrodes are in terrible conditions and any reading or result that are found when patients assist are hard to read since they also lack of the proper paper or ink to print them out. The latter means that only those who can afford it can have an EKG reading done outside of town. Our patients from the diabetes and hypertension club need to have an EKG completed at least once a year, requested by our specialist Dr. Lesly.

With a portable EKG machine we will be able to have the readings of patients immediately and refer them if needed to another specialist. This project will fund the purchase and delivery of the devices.
