Mothers’ centers are core groups formed by women of each community that lead a variety of local initiatives. FIMRC has begun partnering with a number of different mothers’ centers to support these groups in offering health education programs requested by the community leaders. These centers allow us to integrate further within each community of the municipality and address their local needs. As a result of the recent development of new programs targeted at adults and the high level of interest the mothers’ centers have expressed, we have begun running programs including nutrition, diabetes and hypertension, and prenatal health. We hope to reach out to each of the mothers’ centers of the municipality (17 total) with at least one program by the end of 2018. Each course lasts approximately two months and costs $400, which includes healthy snacks for participants, transportation, educational materials for each participant and a certificate for each graduate.
