Maternity beds are quite expensive, and during crowded stretches in the department, patients must move regular wooden slat beds from the wound care department in order to accommodate for the increased number of mothers, children, and families. This, clearly, is not ideal for either department. By purchasing extra beds for the maternity department, FIMRC's clinic will be able to expand its capacity for expecting and recent mothers, especially those who need to stay for multiple nights in order to be monitored for complications or to ensure that their newborn receives proper immunizations. Project Bududa staff love hosting mothers and their babies at the clinic, and with the added beds the department can grow and provide access to a safe, restful, and hygienic space for mothers to prepare for or recover from a birth.
