Demonstrated by the initial survey completed by FIMRC in 2016, hypertension is a chronic disease that greatly impacts the community of Anconcito. Of the surveyed population, 21.32% reported living with hypertension of which over half did not remember the last time they saw a physician. While this could be due to several factors, it does suggest that many may not be properly tending to their hypertension.

FIMRC inaugurated a hypertension support group this year in July, in which those diagnosed with high blood pressure are learning about lifestyle modifications to help manage and prevent progression of their disease while also closely monitoring their blood pressure readings with bi-monthly measurements.

Due to the lack of medical staff in our team and the rapid growth of patient volume from the community, we are currently in need of two digital blood pressure monitors to assist with precise blood pressure measurements. We currently have 14 committed participants and we are hopeful that with the help of digital blood pressure monitors we will be able to accommodate more attendees sooner.

FIMRC is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to providing modern medical care to disadvantaged families worldwide. Learn more at www.fimrc.org.
