In Peru, 43.5 % of children are affected by anemia due to iron deficiency. Infants, under 5-year-old children have greater susceptibility to anemia because of their increased iron requirements due to rapid body growth and expansion of red blood cells. FIMRC Huancayo launched the CUY PROGRAM to treat and prevent Anemia among young children in remotes communities.

In 2016, we started this project in ACO community, giving weekly educational sessions to families whose children have Anemia. In order to complete our goals, we need to realize anemia screenings with hemoglobin microcuvettes. Those screenings tests would allow us to assess children health in order to adapt our treatment or prevention plans to each child and family. We want to make sure all the children of our program are & stay free of Anemia before launching our program in another community in need.
