In the fight for sexual health and against STDs, FIMRC provides a variety of services, including syphilis testing. However, due to the expense of the test kits and the high number of STD cases, the funds spent on purchasing these kits is sapping money away from other equally important tests and treatments. Project Bududa currently uses about 300 tests per month, and at a cost of 1500 UGX a test- we are spending about 1550 USD annually on these tests. This is a staggering amount of money within a laboratory budget that strives to cover the widest number of tests in the most cost-efficient way. With the donation of enough funding to cover syphilis tests for a year, FIMRC can divert these funds to other equally crucial tests, all while enabling our hardworking lab workers to continue the fight against this and other STDs in the area.
