The kids’ club Chicas Maravillas and Chicos Superman was one of the first projects implemented in Project Anconcito when the site opened in 2016. Two years later, FIMRC has worked with over 240 boys and girls ages 8-12, giving classes about nutrition, hygiene, and exercise, as well as life skills like healthy decision-making, self-esteem, goal setting, and conflict resolution. This summer, with the help of FIMRC volunteers, FIMRC developed a new curriculum for Chicas Maravillas and Chicos Superman: Episode II.
The program will be working in each neighborhood, this time with kids ages 10-14, on slightly more advanced topics, like first aid, bullying, human rights, teamwork, and mosquito borne illnesses. The goal is to provide the second level of the course to all of our initial graduates, as well as any other kids that are interested in the program. $250 will help provide materials and supplies for the classes throughout the entire year, including cake and diplomas to celebrate the student’s accomplishments at the end of the course!
